Diet and nutrition play an essential part in an athlete’s preparation and training regime. The provision of a well balanced diet is equally important for growing young students. For these reasons the Academy provides all home stay hosts with detailed guidelines regarding suitable weekly diets, methods of food preparation, how to ensure essential vitamin intake, the importance of daily intake of fresh fruit and vegetables and more to ensure that this vital aspect of our players’ training is addressed. Furthermore, all young players have the option of booking a daily hot lunch at the Bolton Arena. Whilst it would be impossible to control and check everything consumed by an independent young person, this system does ensure that all our young players are receiving as well-monitored and principled diet at all major meal times.
Each student will have access, 7 days a week, to the Bolton Arena Health & Fitness Centre. The centre is fully equipped with state of the art training and weight machines, along with a steam room, sauna and an athletics track. Each student, after initial assessment in week one, will be set a Personal Fitness Programme to develop their aerobic fitness and stamina along with strength and endurance. This can will be compiled with the fully qualified gym staff on site at the Bolton arena and will provide a general fitness programme for the players. Throughout the course there are many elements of fitness that the coaches work on to deal with the demanding physical side to the English game. Those players wishing to push themselves to reach their physical peak for the game can also be provided with a football/position specific fitness and strength based training programme to work on in the timetabled gym sessions. English football is a very physical and demanding game and we at expect all students to be fully focused and self driven regarding personal improvement in fitness and all aspects of the game. Each week students will receive regular feedback on their own fitness to help individually shape personal needs, setting weekly and monthly targets to develop the players’ fitness. Throughout the week students will have several opportunities to work on their personal fitness plan. These will be monitored by our staff to ensure efficient use of time.
