What are your study options?

In addition, to our Standard Course, inlingua has the following Value Added Services:    1. Language Clubs    2. Skill Sessions    3. One-to-One Interactions The Language Clubs; Skill Sessions and One-to-One Interactions are value-additions that address specific language needs and can also be offered as individual courses as well. As a result, the student can not only receive customized training according to his/her need, but also develop additional skills via the value-additions. Students are given the option to select:    1. How do you choose?

You choose the study combination on the basis of your language requirements and the result of your Placement Test. For instance if you wish to pursue a career in the growing BPO/Call Center industry, the minimum requirement is the inlingua Level 3B. What does inlingua mean? Is it an international organization?

inlingua, in Latin, means ‘in the language’. This name has been chosen since in an inlingua classroom only that language is used which the students have come to learn. The teaching methodology at inlingua focuses on learning the target language by speaking in the language, without translating it to one’s native language. Founded in Switzerland in 1968, it has grown to become an international network of almost 340 language Centers in over 40 countries. Hide

How is the inlingua method of teaching unique?

At inlingua our objective is to impart confidence in the student to be able to speak English or a Foreign language. Our method not only improves a student’s oral communication or speaking skills but also allows the student to continually improve via his/her sense of confidence in the language. In class the students learn by speaking and listening. They are encouraged to participate in ‘real life’ activities, role-plays and discussions where they are required to speak and listen to their colleagues and instructor. This gives them a chance to apply what they are learning and prepares them to face similar situations in the real world confidently. The inlingua method is also significantly different from the lecture method since 70% of the class time is spent by the students speaking in the target language. Reading and writing are deliberately ignored during class. The students are required to work on these skills at home through the inlingua materials given to them when they register for a course. inlingua teaching and learning method is unique and interesting. Our USP is teaching the language by making the student speak in the language from day one, the student speaks more than the instructor, our classes consist of a small number of students, the instructors are well trained and experienced in the inlingua method of teaching and we focus on speaking the language rather than writing it. Are you affiliated to any university? Are inlingua courses recognized?

inlingua Level corresponds to that of ALTE (Association of Language Testers in Europe) and with 300 Centers across the globe, inlingua is recognized the world over. In India, we are not affiliated to any University, which also allows us to customize our courses to the work environment. Hide

Do you provide any placements?

We are in the process of making a placement cell. This cell will bridge the gap between employers who want well trained English speakers and our students who would like to apply their learning in these companies. Hide

What do the various levels signify?

The various levels signify a person’s ability to comprehend and speak the language correctly and effectively in various situations i.e. the command or fluency he/she has in a particular language. At inlingua we also refer to them as the inlingua Levels. Level 1 signifies that one is a beginner and has basic command to deal with his/her basic everyday situation. Level 2 signifies limited command over the language i.e. along with your everyday situations, you can deal with situations you are familiar with or have dealt with earlier. Level 3 signifies an effective command over the language i.e. apart from the basic everyday and familiar situation, to a certain extent you can deal with new situations which you are facing for the first time. Level 4 signifies a good command of language in fair number of situations Level 5 signifies complete command over the language. Hide

What is the difference between "A" and "B" in a particular level?

Each Level is further divided into two sub-levels (or semesters), namely, ‘A’ followed by ‘B’. This enables you and inlingua to get an in-depth and more accurate assessment of your level, such that you and your classmates belong to the same level. You start a Level with “A” and finish the Level with “B”. For any level, the introduction to the structures & vocabulary (pertaining to that level) is done in “A” and the remaining difficult structures & vocabulary along with the entire consolidation of the Level is done at “B”. For eg: In case of 2A it means that you are having the basic command over the language (cleared Level 1) but you are starting the limited command range. 2B will signify that you can deal with your everyday situation quite nicely and to a certain extent situations you are familiar with (partial limited command). When the familiar situation becomes difficult or complex you are not that comfortable with your language. At this point you may consider moving up to Level 3. Hide

Do you cover grammar and vocabulary also? Do you teach accents?

We cover grammar and vocabulary but only in the context of usage. We neither introduce grammatical terms and theory nor analyze the various meanings of a word. We simply stress on how to use the grammar and vocabulary in different contexts. Look at it this way: a little child can speak his mother tongue very fluently and accurately although he knows no rules of grammar and has never looked at a dictionary! In the same way we teach the student how to use the language to express themselves in different ‘real life’ situations, not the rules of its grammar and meanings of words. No, we do not teach accents. Our primary focus is at the fluency of the spoken language, i.e. whatever you speak; you speak it correctly and confidently. Hide

What is the duration of a particular level? Do you offer any crash course? How long will it take to commence classes?

A typical course lasts 48 hours. The period of the course is entirely up to you to decide. For example, you could choose to complete 48 hours by coming thrice a week for two hours each day or you could opt for an intensive everyday course, etc. inlingua is open 7 days a week from 7am to 9pm. We also have courses on a one-on-one basis to meet your specific needs. We do have an option of a fast track course where a two month course can be covered in a month’s time. But the starting of such a course depends upon a minimum enrollment of four students for the same time and of the same level. Classes start as soon as we have enough registrations for a particular Level and your preferred time slot. Since we focus on small groups, it usually doesn't take very long to commence a course. Is the student required to do all the levels? How much time will it take to cover all the levels? Can we pay in lump sum for all the levels from Level 1A to 4?

No student is required to do all the levels. When the prospective student comes to the institute we assess what his/her current Level of ability is in the language. Based on that we recommend a Level. Therefore, all the students do not start from Level 1A. If the customer wishes to do a course we charge only for one level. After a student completes a level, based on his ability and satisfaction, he can register for the next level. We don’t accept lump sum amounts for more than one level. Typically, it takes 16 weeks to cover a single Level at inlingua. But this figure varies since every student doesn't have the same Level of motivation and language ability. Some may take longer while some may be able to do it comfortably in the stipulated time. So it is very difficult to say how long it will take for a student to complete all the levels (assuming he/she is a beginner). Hide

What is the benefit of learning English?

English is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world and has acquired the status of being the language of international communication. It is the most likely common factor between two people from opposite sides of the world who have nothing in common with each other and yet must interact, for business or otherwise. It is the language of business communication and in a globalized world where business alliances are formed across countries between people of different cultural and language backgrounds, it is a necessity. On a more general level, it is the most ‘alive’ language of the 21st century and is essential to get any first hand account of the growth of ideas and human potential. Hide

What is so special about learning it from inlingua?

In the conventional method the stress is on explaining the things and the teacher ends up doing most of the talking but we at inlingua are very well aware of the fact that a language can be learnt only by speaking, language is not math or history where one can memorize formulae and dates. Do you teach reading and writing in Level 1A where the student is not even familiar with the script? If not, why not?

inlingua teaches you to speak the target language and 'say it right'. Our entire methodology focuses only on speaking. We believe that when student begins to speak English well he/she gets confidence and begins to read, write and pursue higher training towards mastery of the language. Hide

What benefits can one gain after doing a particular level, say 2B?

Each Level has its own benefits. For example, after doing a 2B you would have a limited command of English in familiar situations, like, recognize basic formal and informal language, confirm and change travel plans, understand and give simple instructions, suggest and recommend, complain and apologize, etc. Hide

What are the job-prospects after doing a course?

One of the major reasons for not clearing interviews and Group Discussions is a lack of confidence because of poor communication skills in English. This is taken care of during a course at inlingua as a student overcomes his hesitation of talking in English. Since he / she is made to talk a lot and the only way to tackle your fear is to take it head on. Hide

What is the right Level for a Call Center job?

The Level of English required for a call Center job is usually Level 3 and above. However, the exact Level of English required varies from one call Center to another. Hide

What is the Level of English required for clearing IELTS/TOEFL exams? How does inlingua help me in attaining the same? What are the dates for the IELTS exams?

Usually for an IELTS band of 6.5-7.0 you should be at inlingua Level 3A/3B. After your assessment depending upon your Level we can suggest the appropriate course. We do provide an IELTS preparatory course to help you get in tune with the IELTS testing. IELTS exams are held twice a month. Hide

Is the standard of teaching the same in all the inlingua Centers?

How qualified are the instructors? Are the instructors native speakers of the language they teach?

The instructors are experienced, qualified and very well versed in the language they teach. They undergo intensive training in the inlingua method before they start teaching you. We have some instructors who are native speakers or who have stayed in these countries and others who have specialized in those particular languages. Hide

Do you provide certification at the end of your course? Will your certificate help in our visa processing in the embassies?

inlingua New Delhi issues a certificate describing your overall performance during the course. At an embassy interview, it is the knowledge that counts and inlingua equips you with that. Hide

Do you provide any trial classes? If not, why not?

No, we do not provide any trial classes as you will not be able to totally understand and comprehend the inlingua method in a class. Our classes are done as per the Levels and the people are assessed and grouped accordingly. It is the formation of the group, bonding between the classmates and the instructor and working of the inlingua method in that class which helps the student to feel comfortable, relaxes him and induces that thinking process which is very essential. All this cannot be done in a one-off class, where the student may not be of the same Level and there may not be an understanding between the participants. On the point of letting the person sit in one of the on-going classes, it will only disrupt the class and the person will not feel comfortable in that environment. Hide

How do I use the materials that you provide? Why is it important to buy them?

The material that we provide is developed by professionals keeping in mind the method we follow. It is 50-100 hours of work practice, and we recommend that you follow the practice assignments everyday. It will reinforce whatever you have done in the class and enable you to master it. Hide

What is the benefit of learning a foreign language?

Being multilingual these days is not a luxury but a necessity. Knowledge of a foreign language adds value to your CV. Learning a foreign language can help you get a job : a) as translators, interpreters b) in embassies, airlines c) in Call Centers d) as a professional in the present globalization of the world economies, speaking a foreign language is an asset. English : Britain, USA, Canada, Australia, India and in almost 45 other countries the official language is English. German : Germany, Austria, Switzerland primarily. Speaking German is also useful in the Scandinavian countries. French : France, Switzerland and 31 other countries where it is the official language. Spanish : Spain and most of the countries in South and Central America. Knowledge of Spanish also helps in Portugal and Italy. Japanese : Japan Chinese : China Korean : Korea Russian : USSR Arabic : Middle East Urdu : Pakistan , India. English is the universally accepted language with German and Spanish following behind. Which language should we opt for? Which one is easier to learn? Is it necessary to know English well in order to learn another European language?

The choice of language is based on what are your career plans are, what would you like to do in the future, where would you like to work or what your areas of interest are etc. It also depends upon your flair for the language. It is not essential to know English to learn any other language as we teach you in the target language only and do not use the translation method. Hide

What is the Level of French required for clearing the TEF exam? How does inlingua help me in attaining the same? What are the dates for the TEF exams?

You should be at least a Level 2B to clear the basic Level of TEF, 3B to clear the Moderate Level and Level 4 and above to clear the high Level of TEF exam. Hide
